Reassuring

As a Christ follower in a Southern Baptist Church, I bought this book to find out why believers within the convention have approved changes to this doctrinal statement two times in its history. I know the Scripture hasn't changed, so why did our doctrinal statement need to change? The answer was easy to find in this collection of contributions from the members of the panel that drafted the 2000 Statement. Our doctrinal statements are still tied to careful reading and interpretation of Scripture; the two sets of changes since the original Baptist Faith and Message have been done to stress certain points of Biblical teaching in response to the shift of thinking in the general society away from godly principles and values. I recommend this book to readers interested in what and why Southern Baptists believe what they do. For my part, I'm reassured to know the two sets of changes were not a "watering down" of doctrine, but a clarification and strengthening of statement in the face of societal changes around us.

This book is about what Baptists believe

If you're like me, perhaps you've been to a Southern Baptist Church, or even been a member of one, but didn't know quite what they believe. This is an important book because it goes through the Southern Baptist's statement of belief, the Baptist Faith and Message 2000, and Baptist scholars and leaders explain what it means and why it matters.
I'm sure not everyone will be interested in this book, but if you want to dig into the Baptist Faith and Message, and read some thoughtful (and hopefully thought provoking) discussion about it, I recommend this book.

the liberal thought caused and the return to conservatives ideas and

Although readable the book is informational.
Anyone interested in conservative thought and practice should read this
