Excellent

"The Living Legacy of Oscar Romero," is an excellent book, which includes many thought-provoking and insightful articles from the past 7 Romero Center Annual Lectures. Each article discusses issues related to peace and justice... I highly recommend this book to professors, teachers, and scholars. This is a great book to incorporate into your curriculum with high school and college students. This is a 'must read.'

Romer'o's Legacy

As a long time adult educator (RCIA), I give this book the highest recommendation. In seven short, very readable chapters, leading Catholic thinkers and doers, including, Fr. Gustavo Gutierrez, Sr. Helen Prejean, Bishop Gumbleton and Prof. Diana Hayes, discuss some of the most important social issues we face in our country and the world: war, poverty, race, capital punishment and immigration. I was happy to see two bishops among the contributors. The forward and introductory chapter both clearly illustrate the link between Archbishop Romero's life and death and the struggles lived out by America's minorities and urban poor. The role of the Eucharist and its relation to the quest for justice and charity is central to each chapter. Sunday liturgy is not a shield for the world but an invitation and incentive to become involved. The book is perfect for adult education groups. Each chapter is followed by reflection questions that will spark discussion.

Romero's Legacy is an indispensable introduction to the topic of social justice and the Christian call to follow Christ's example for the sake of the poor and disenfranchised. Through the lens of seven different writers, each committed to living faith through work on behalf of those who the secular world values least, the book makes a convincing case that faith, without works, is dead. Concise and accessible, Romero's Legacy is lends itself easily to structured study. The text is appropriate not only for high school or college curricula, but also as a learning tool for small-group study.
